When Life Gives You Sweets

When life gives you sweets, simply enjoy it and have fun! :D

I’ll keep this post short long and sweet (ohhh! No pun intended here!  Kind of.)

This past Friday was our last official day with our volunteer kids.  Wahhhhh it was so bittersweet especially towards the end!  Greg and I are planning to go to the 5th graders’ graduation ceremony on Thursday.  You see, our class is filled with a few 4th graders as well as 5th.  Hopefully we will get to work with the younger ones even throughout next year.

We had a pizza party and played Bible Questions bingo with them!  We were both so amazed and proud of how much they were retaining!  Now hopefully, they can put what they learned into practice hehe.

Sadly enough, only a handful of them showed up this time.  I guess they’re all getting “elementaritis”…I remember fighting major senioritis at the end of high school! Actually, even through most of my childhood. Did you?

Yesterday I got to hang out with my dear beloved friend Lizzy and had some major catching up to do!  We first ate around our area and headed out to downtown L.A. to my FAVORITE PLACE OF ALL TIME! “Again Ellie?!”  Yup, I think I might have warned you that I would talk about this place forevermore.  Or maybe that was just a thought that went across my mind and I was merely thinking of warning you. ;)

Urth Caffe’s dessert selection is nothing short of amazing.  We ordered their blueberry cheesecake and pumpkin pie, along with their infamous Spanish Latte.

I just happen to love these foamy figures so much that I’ve attempted to make them at home several times, and I had utterly failed, haha!

I promised Liz a long time ago that I would take her to Urth, and alas, I kept my promise.

I was confident that she would love all of their desserts, and to my delight, this was her response…

Success!!! :D   She is quite the critic when it comes to food, and gaining her approval made me tres joyeuse!!

After we left, I was of course on Cloud 9 and managed to get us lost in the scariest parts of downtown L.A.!  Yikes!

It was quite a sad sight at such a late evening–as we were lost in the parts of Skidrow where there are countless of people living and meandering through the streets.  This was actually around where The Soloist was filmed I think.

Liz and I agree that for sure, this wasn’t a coincidence (aside from my bad sense of direction).  We truly believe that it was a moment to pray for these people and reflect on what God wanted to do there.  I have to be honest that despite the sadness that it produced within my heart, I suddenly had gained a bit of hope for those people and for an awakening to happen in L.A.

Well, then today came and I had a blessed time at church!  Pastor Daniel spoke about getting rid of our strongholds and changing the way we live and think.

Afterward, my friends and I headed out to eat Japanese Ramen and had the most amazing shaved ice ever!  It’s called Snow and the ice is fluffier than fresh snow. I know, how is that possible?  Well my friends, it apparently is!

There’s condensed milk, fresh mangoes, some kind of mango pudding+mochi balls.  So delicious!

It was a great weekend spending time with my loves and I think I really took advantage of all the good food this week!

I’m recovering well from Lasik and trying REALLY hard not to exercise as per the doctor’s advice.  So far, I’ve been a good patient. I am hoping that I can share my workouts as soon as I’m able to get moving.

How was your weekend?

Did  you do or eat anything out of the ordinary?

What are some of the things that make you the saddest or pensive as you see the condition of the world?  (For me it’s poverty and human trafficking+so many more)

If you had lasik done, how long did you wait to exercise?

Have a beautiful and blessed day y’all!

P.S:  By the way, not that I consider myself high and mighty or crazy interesting!  Hehe, but is there anything you would like to ask or know?  Or anything you’re interested in seeing on the blog?  If so, don’t be a stranger and ask away!

Love,

Ellie <33

glad you asked Junia! basically, that once we become God’s children and redeemed by Christ, we are no longer subject to the problems/addictions, etc. that our ancestors or even parents went through. Yeah we’re still battling spiritually, but we have the power to cancel/reject those things! Just b/c a dad was a drunkard doesn’t mean the child HAS TO BECOME that way. He/she can fight it in Jesus’ name. Sorry! We don’t have recordings! :P how fun! I remember doing boba sale last year for India! it was tough work.

I’ve never had any kind of dessert like that but it sounds amazing! I love anything frozen so I’m sure I would love it. Just so unique and different things in it. Do most Japanese places serve this!?

Ellie June 14, 2011 at 2:20 pm

hey Allie! Hmmm I’m not 100% positive about this–but it looks like many Jap. places do! I know that many asian places like Taiwanese have these~OR YOU CAN OPT for the Korean kind which is still really good :D we call it “patbingsoo”
