Where I am

Dun dun dun…Currently, I find myself in a very interesting and unique phase in my life, and perhaps it’s a feeling that many of you college graduates have been familiar with, or still are to this day.

I’m still working with my super adorable and (sometimes) lovable student Cameron, but I am starting to wrap things up with him while training other new aids.

You see, working with a child who has special needs definitely requires some major commitment.  We need at least a whole year’s commitment to take him to school.  As you all probably know, I’m trying to get things done for the upcoming wedding as well as search for a job opportunity, also known as, my “career”.  I will miss Cameron so much! :( Waahhhhh

Although I know that God has some amazing and great things in store for me and Greg in the future, it’s not certain if those plans will be in the near or distant future. I mean, whatever He has said and done, will come to pass as long as I stay sensitive to His voice! Amen and amen to that!

The “plan” that I’m talking about is a pretty hard notion for many people to grasp, but if you’re actually curious enough to know, then I’d be willing to share if you ask me!

My question is though, dear reader, if I haven’t bored you to death and you’re still so persevering enough to read this!! Haha.  How is one to search for a job that involves his or her studied major?!  Do most of you get to work with what you studied in college?  Any tips for this? ;)

I realize that PATIENCE IS KEY DURING THESE TIMES!!!  :D   While I’m not necessarily worried, there are times when I begin to wrestle things out with God.  And this is a good thing! I believe that in order to grow in faith and perseverance, we need to come directly to God with our whole heart.

So this is where I am. In a place of waiting, searching for what’s already been promised, and trusting in God’s perfect sovereignty.  :)   No I take that back, not even His sovereignty!  But the Lord Himself.  I will not lose hope nor get dismayed!   He’s brought me too far to shrink away in fear and be so proud as to belittle His providence.

For those of you who are “stuck in a rut” as many people would say…However, I like to call it “the waiting period before victory comes” instead, here are some verses that I gain strength from daily.

“The testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”  ~James 1:3-4~

“And why do you worry about clothes?  See how the lilies of the field grow.  They do not labor or spin.  Consider how the lilies grow. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”  ~Matthew 6:28-30~

It’s been said that the majority of our lives is spent waiting and waiting and waiting.  It is after all, one of the hardest things for us mere mortals to do–to wait and be patient!!  But I am totally okay with that, because I know that Jesus is with me. :D Besides, I want to spend this time as well as the rest of my life being thankful to Christ for all that He’s done for me.  Having a personal relationship with Him truly can’t be beat.

What I’ve been doing

The other day I got together with some friends to prepare for another friend’s SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTAYYY!!

Haha!  We made the cake all from scratch and we were in such a hurry that we completely butchered the first attempt!!

We didn’t have time to spare, so I opted for a super simple but soooo delicious cake recipe from Allrecipes.  It was a success.

The cream is just basic whipped cream.  For some odd reason, it started to become runny so we just covered up the flaws with beautiful berries.  The heart shaped strawberries are courtesy of my friend Lim. :)

Ain’t she a beauty?  I say yes!

The birthday girl is Steph, in the polka dots!! We had seriously so much fun bonding and sharing together.  It was just what she hoped for, a cozy birthday party.

I was so proud of the girls for setting up a great taco bar which only happened to be exquisitely yummy!

Later at night we decided to go for some Asian Karaoke!  Or as Koreans call it, Noraebang.

Some of us went crazy and started to dance to the silliest songs, including “YMCA”. :P

Also, if you haven’t tried the protein pancakes then I highly encourage you to try it.

To this one I added half of a mashed banana and it tasted DEEE-VINE.

Obviously, different protein powders produce different flavors in the pancakes.  I’ve been using the BOKU Rice Protein powder that I got last month and it’s delicious when it is in baked goods.  However, I have to be honest and say that it’s not what I expected.  It’s pretty good, but I wouldn’t call it the most delicious supplement out there when I drink it in smoothie form.

My butt and my hamstrings, as well as every other muscle fiber in my body (except my face) is sore from yesterday’s workout.  I feel good! I love that burning firey sensation.  I mostly worked my abs along with high knees, and at the end I did 30 lb. deadlifts.  The answer to strong and tight glutes+hams–>Dead.Lifts.  ;)

I have a recipe coming for this dish very soon!

I realize that the dressing on top is mispositioned and hence, it looks funky.

By the way!! Look to the right of my blog.  Yep!  I am now considered a Foodbuzz Featured Publisher.  Looking forward to the fun events they hold.

I hope you have a great rest of the day and I love you dear readers!  Take care.

Favorite butt and leg exercise?

What are you wanting to trust God with, or have been patient waiting for?

Grace & Peace,

Ellie <33

I know I’m going to be in the same place you are in December when I graduate. It seems like it’s really common to feel sort of stranded and confused right afterwards. You’re right though, patience is the key! I’m sure you’ll get through this.

Looks like your friend had a great party! That cake looks gorgeous. Love all of the fruit on the top!

Thanks for the kind comment Rachel! I’m sure that if you DO go through that, you’ll remain strong and patient too ;)

Sorry your time with Cameron is coming to an end :( Just remember what a blessing you were to him. I’m sure he will be forever thankful! :D

I have no idea how to find jobs using your majors, but I’m sure you will find one! That’s actually something I’ve never thought of before. When you figure out how, tips would be greatly appreciated :D

I’m glad the party was a success! Your friend is lucky to have you as her friend! :)

sigh thanks so much for your post. i’m like you… waiting, and hoping, and trusting in God’s sovereignty. i feel so uplifted after reading your post and your bible verses.

read this in a devotional the other day:
“Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even knowing it, live your way to the answer.” Rainer Maria Rike

Junia, thank you so much for sharing this devotional quote! Also, it’s encouraging to know that you’re also learning more and more how to trust God’s timing with everything! There’s so much power in giving a word of encouragement to someone else when you’re going through it as well, huh? :)

I actually work in career services – helping current and recent grads find work! The job market is tough – but having a good resume to start as well as some interviewing skills is a great way to find the work! If you want to email me, I’d be happy to review your resume and send you some links related to finding a career in your field of study!

Wow what a gorgeouos cake. Graduating can be a tricky in limbo time. I always prayed and hoped God would lead me down the right career path and so far so good. I have gained so much experience from all my previous jobs which has definitely led me to where I am today.

I’ve never heard (or read in this case) Noraebang for a long time! Haha…

I’ll tell you a little secret… I’m stuck too. I just started work 2 months ago and I want out! Huhu… I know teaching English is my passion but I want to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and I want to teach adults. Right now, I’m teaching english to Singaporean kids and although they are all lovely, I think I want to really pursue my ESL calling….. hayyy… still praying.. hopefully I’ll be led to where I should be headed.

I hope you get a ‘career’ soon! ANd how’s wedding planning? When’s the big day btw?

Oh Viv!~Wherever you are right now, I know that whatever the Lord wants you to do, will come to pass as long as you stay obedient to His will. And whatever He wants for you at the moment, though you may not LOVE it, He’ll give you the heart to love it then! And the planning is okay, I’m excited to meet with my MOH tomorrow and we’ll discuss some deeeetz! :D

What am I waiting for? Hmm. To be honest (and a bit vulnerable), I’m 24 and have never known what it’s like to be in love or have someone care for me. It’s hard not to feel like I’ll be waiting forever!

In the meantime, I’ll simply have to make your pancakes.

Hannah, I really appreciate your openness with me (and us)! You are such a sweet gal and I know that you’d make your future somebody feel so loved. Whoever he is, he shall be just as awesome as you are. I know it’s hard to wait, but I figure that many times…that person seems to come into our lives when we LEAST expect it, and if we just patiently wait. in the meanwhile, I think it helps us to stay positive as we focus on making ourselves better individuals to become right for that spouse. :D Hang in there girl!~Anytime you need anythin’ though we’re 128413 miles away, just holla.

Oooooh, that cake looks A-MAZE-ING!!!
Unfortunately there is no easy way to get a relative job….just apply aply apply! you may find there are certain agencies/websites that specialise in your major, but be patient, put real effort in to every application and just go for it! Good luck :D

Congrats on being a Foodbuzz Featured Publisher! It’s so fun and opens up a lot of opportunities =)

And life doesn’t always unfold the way we plan, so sometimes if we just go with it, the rest will fall into place!

Thanks for stopping by my blog (suite4e.com) and leaving me a comment. I was trying to find your email to respond to you but couldn’t find one so I’ll just respond on here.

I wasn’t offended by your comment at all so no worries! I actually really appreciate all the incite and your comment makes me feel a little better about the situation because I think I may be able to rule out autism. My son has actually been to a speech therapist because I was looking into an “early childhood program” for him to prepare him for kindergarten. She said he didn’t notice anything regarding autism but he does have apparent behavioral issues and time will tell. I’m still waiting to hear back from the program for more details about their interviews with my son, as he was also seen by a psychologist.
He is also really smart, he can recite the alphabet, count, write and identify some letters. And he is very extroverted rather then introverted. I guess my plan is to wait until he is five and see how much his behavior is a problem then and then take him to a specialist. fingers crossed!! This parenting business can be really hard! but i love him to pieces.

Thanks again for the advise, I really appreciate hearing real people opinions rather then pieces of information I come across on the internet (so misleading)

Wow Ellie, that cake looks delicious!

I know you mean about graduating -I finish all my papers at the end of the year and I’m not sure if I’m ready to be a grown up yet with a proper job and such. I have my first interview with one of the largest engineering companies next week and I’m all nerves! Shopping for suitable clothes for the interview was great fun though =)

In response to your question, I LOVE Brooke Fraser. I actually have her newest CD on loop in my car -have had it for at least 3 or 4 months now haha

Trusting God is hard, but it wouldn’t be trust when everything is easy and smooth. Most people don’t end up with a job that has to do with their majors, yet they are pretty satisfied with their careers. A major degree is just 4 years of studying, but honestly, our whole life is a college, a constant learning process. Whatever you choose to do, you would have been preparing for it your whole life! :-)
