The Weekend
I went to my friends’ baby’s 1st birthday on Saturday.
Her cute little name is Rosie Blessing, and she just turned one! In the Korean culture, a baby’s 1 year birthday is one of the most important celebrations ever. Some people go all out, even as to spend over $10,000!
However, my friends Helen and Min kept it simple and just had a big group of us gather at their lovely house. We had lots of Korean dishes and played crazy “baby games”. Think, a bunch of chocolate candy bars mushed into a diaper and the person has to try it to figure out which bars are in it, kind of game.
We had so much fun and most importantly, we were there to bless this beautiful family.
Today is Greg’s actual birthday, but we celebrated on Saturday and went to one of our most esteemed places in Socal.
I got dressed up in my new dress that Greg got me for Christmas from Opensky.
It’s my first time wearing a maxi dress, and I have to say that it’s so comfy that I feel like I’m wearing PJs.
Once again, we visited Urth Caffe on Melrose and finally calmed our cravings for their Spanish Latte.
Greg ordered the Urth Quesadilla.
And I opted for the Mediterranean Platter.
They sure make a mean Dolmas! I wonder how they do it. But well, it’s Urth…so what can they not do?
We were sort of running late to our next activity. But good thing that instead of being too stressed out (at least Greg wasn’t and I kind of was), we tried to take it easy on the road while listening to The Screwtape Letters by the one and only C.S. Lewis, woot!
And just where were we headed to, you ask?
We went to the actual Screwtape Letters play, which happens to be the new “sensation” in town. It has been highly acknowledged by newspapers around the US and is rapidly catching people’s attention. Whether you’re a Christian or not, I guarantee that it’s a well written letter and if you watch it on stage everything comes to life and perspective. The play is filled with satire and funny scenes to lighten up the mood, so it’s not as scary as the title makes it sound, but it sure is provoking and challenging to my faith.
DIY Gifts
Currently, I am working on a DIY project for Greg’s birthday gift. (Yes it is late, don’t mention it) I have always loved to make things on my own, but these days it just seems harder and harder to make the time for projects.
I will soon reveal what that project is, and I actually got the idea and inspiration from another blogger!
For now, let your eyes feast on this beautimous cupcake….
I apologize that you can’t be here to try some, while Greg will probably be gorging down every single one of them.
*sob*
But! That doesn’t mean that you can’t make it yourself. So I pinky promise to share the recipe with you should I not lose the recipe paper! No sirree, this time my absent mindedness won’t get the best of me.
Have a blessed day y’all!
Which eatery do you tend to frequent or always look forward to?
-Definitely Urth! If you’re in LA, I highly recommend it.
Do you like plays and musicals? If so, which one is your favorite? Any suggestions?
Love,
Ellie <33

Oh my golly, $10,000 for a birthday party? That actually makes me feel a bit unwell, thank heavens your family focused on the aspects of family and love and support instead of bling!
Though, speaking (vaguely) of bling, gorgeous dress! You look stunning
As does the Mediterranean platter!
Yeahhh I know~but it’s actually a cultural thing that goes back thousands of years. Basically, back in those days (at least in Korea), if a baby was able to live even till his/her 1st bday, then it was a miracle! So that’s where the 1st bday shabang started
Aww that baby party sounds lovely
And happy birthday Greg!
The food looks and sounds delicious. As do your cupcakes!
Your dress is beautiful, you look really gorgeous
Thank you Sophie, you’re too kind! Lovely to see ya around
omg I love the papers that you used for those cupcakes! My cupcakes always turn out ugly lol. I love musicals, and I’m going to see Beauty and the Beast in March
I know I love ‘em too! haha. I got ‘em on sale at Michaels. You can definitely make ‘em look pretty Lena! Just using the right props and lighting will make a world of a difference. Beauty and the beast sounds sooo fun!!
whoohoo! so excited that i won!
thanks ellie!
and i love the mxi dress – looks very classy
. i think i would have devoured that mediterranean plate. i love dolmas, hummus, olives, and roasted veggies! YUM!
hehe you’re welcome! I wanted to devour it but we only had so much time. And you know what happens if people like you and I eat too fast. Probably bad stomach problems.
that dress looks amazing on you!! I love maxi dresses as well. SOO comfy and can be both dressy or casual
I agree! I think that with a really short jacket this would be really casual.
You look super cute in that maxi dress! And what a precious little baby.
Oh thank you thank you Rach! And Rosie is adorable~It’s like, she tries her best NOT to smile, but when she does it’s so precious
Looks like you had a great time at the birthday party. I love the dress!
Urth is bookmarked on my mobile Yelp! So glad you’re reaffirming this choice and I’ll be visiting it when I go up to LA next time!
I once had a maxi dress, but being short, it enveloped me!
Cute dress! Wish I could pull of maxi dresses… They always make me look stumpy and even shorter.
I always love making DIY gifts. However, just like you, I find it harder and harder to make time for them!
hey Thao! I’m actually really short too! xD About 5’1″ or 5’2″? But I think it depends on the dress material and color perhaps? I felt like I looked taller in it actually, hehe~
You looked SO beautiful!
Hope wedding planning is coming along great!!! Soon right?! Did you say March is when you are, I can’t remember, I know so many people getting married! lol! Im so excited for you!
Have a great rest of the week! xo
aw thanks lovely Katie!~ Yup, it is in March and everytime I hear that month I get butterflies haha. But you have a great memory since you guessed right! Love you girlie <3
Hi! I know i already told you, but congradulations on your one year blogging! I’m so proud of you, not just for that but also for the young woman you are, and the one you are becoming. Thanks again for the cupcakes, and the DIY gifts sweetie, that was so thoughtful of you.
Just two more months, wow! There is no one else i would want to share my life with. You are and always have been God’s greatest gift to me after Christ. Anyway, I’ll see you soon, sarang he!
Hehe thank you for the sweet comment G!~And I was sooo happpy you loved ‘em. They were fun to make too. Sarang hae! (^_^) I was trying to make the korean heart sign over the head haha
