How do you do, friends? These past 2 weeks have been nothing short of amazing despite the busy-ness!
Since Russell and Sharon (Greg’s parents) were in town for a couple of days, we all took advantage of that time and spent those few days together. Also my friend AJ, one of my bridesmaids, is here from Korea and was able to make it to the bridal shower! Which brings me to my next point…
Some of the wonderful women in my life. Thank you for coming!
I had so much fun and I couldn’t help but feel so incredibly blessed for their love! I remember that I was hoping that this day could last forever, but it breezed by so quickly that it felt like we were together for only 30 minutes. I guess most enjoyable experiences are like that, huh?
The dessert bar was awesome! AJ, Susan, and Emily worked so hard for this event, and Emily made the cookies as well as the cupcakes. The cookies were some sort of oatmeal type of cookies, which by the way, are my favorite.
Alongside the desserts was a whole spread of cute little sandwiches, a delicious pasta salad, and the option of salad and fresh veggies. There was so much food left and everyone seemed pretty stuffed! So, we all got to take home the leftovers, heh!
AJ prepared highly interactive games, like bingo. Everyone had to scurry around and get the signature of the person who matched the characteristics of the bingo boxes. For example, there was one that stated, “I can lick my elbow”. It goes without saying that everyone looked insane trying to lick their elbows! Myself included.
There was also a time for gift-opening, and I just couldn’t believe some of the awesome things I received! Everyone’s gift had a little touch of something personal, and uh….some of them were very “wild” gifts, if you know what I mean. I am 100% sure that I turned cherry red after opening those up. What can I say? I felt embarrassed!
My beautiful bridesmaids, sisters, and friends
Notice the DIY sign! I loved it and took it home with me. According to Greg, I am apparently very “sentimental”. And you know what? I have to agree on that!
Greg and I couldn’t believe our eyes on Sunday morning at church. We were surprised by the congregation with bridal shower gifts for the both of us. When I walked into the room I felt so disoriented and couldn’t fathom their love and welcoming hearts…so it’s now official. We are now part of this congregation as God uses us to lead the ministry. Let me clarify that–we are not leading it, but it is God who uses us as vessels to execute His plans for this church.
Although the shower is now over, there are still so many things to look forward to! I’m learning that taking it one day at a time, appreciating every single moment for its ups and downs, is the key to true gratitude.
Leah Sarago’s Ballet-Inspired Routines
So the weather has been beautiful, except that it can get pretty crazy in the evening. [Note that I live in So Cal, and the word "crazy" is probably an overstatement to most of you who brave snow storms everyday.]
It may be at a good mid 70′s throughout the whole day, and suddenly brrrrr it goes down to about 50 something degrees. Now, considering that I’ve been out and about more often than not, along with taking care of wedding details, I caught a minor cold that started with a really sore throat.
I’m doing much better now. Praise Jesus!
Rest, healthy eats, and a new-to-me fitness routine have been my friends.
I mentioned a few posts ago that I’ve been intrigued by Leah Sarago’s Ballet Body videos. I never thought that I would get into fitness that didn’t include grunting, jumping, and growing chest hair while lifting weights. Okay I’m kidding about that last part. But the rest is true!
After taking a look at what Leah is all about, I began with her 10 minute express routine. Honestly speaking, my initial thoughts were, “that looks easy peasy!”
Keep in mind that I’m used to using 15-40 lb. weights for many of my workouts. Sometimes I even like to act like a crazy monkey and jump around like the people from Insanity. Naturally, I thought that 3 lb. dumbbells wouldn’t do anything to my muscles.
And boy was I wrong! I got hooked on her routines because they actually provide tons of burn on my muscles through flowy repetitions. Not to mention, I was actually sweating quite a bit.
I became more curious about this whole ballet business and purchased one of her cheaper downloadable packages, which you can find here. These are great options to start out with her exercises because there are 16 or more routines in each package.
Her ab work is beyond amazing because I feel muscle contractions in the smallest and most neglected areas of my stomach. Furthermore, her leg and arm workouts are deceivingly tough! I believe it’s because Leah’s method targets the body parts that we tend to neglect unknowingly. To top it off, I just feel strong yet graceful the more I practice with Leah. I’m not sure if it’s all in my head, but I feel more….”womanly”? Hah! Or simply put, I feel poised and elongated all throughout my body.
Leah’s instructions are truly easy to follow for people who are terribly uncoordinated like me, and her voice is very pleasant to listen to. If you are curious about Ballet Body, you can watch her free videos and give them a try!
Since I’ve been fighting off this cold, Ballet Body has been a great alternative for low impact+high burn exercising. Along with this, I’m still going to be running on alternating days. I will continue to lift some weights and stick to my body weight HIITs.
In my opinion, it all comes down to balance and experimenting with different things–and I plan to stick to whatever works for me.
