in Food, God

Happy Sunday everyone!  How has the weekend treated you?

Mine was a busy and active one, yet just as blessed as usual.  Care to know where I spent my time this weekend?

(*Disclaimer:  You may jump ahead if you don’t care to read about cleaning*)

None other than at home and at church.  Cleaning, scrubbing, more scrubbing, huffing and puffing, and did I mention scrubbing?  Why yes, I guess I did.   Yesterday was our church cleaning day, so naturally I headed over to the parsonage that we use every week to do some service for God and the congregation.   The little girls that were “helping” me scrub the oven (more like entertaining me with their cuteness) with headache inducing chemicals kept mentioning the fact that my arm muscles were getting uneven.  Hey, it’s not my fault that I’m as right handed as can be.  Smile

After that I spent the rest of the day in our home’s kitchen and bathtub scrubbing away, except this time I was tired of smelling Borax and decided to make my own eco-friendly cleaner.  So much better!  But yea, enough of this dreadful talk!  I’m sure you have better things to do and read about than me cleaning a house.

At least I got to do one fun and relaxing thing!  Greg and I had a $25 Sears gift card that was collecting dust in our office room—all neglected and poor.  He suggested that I go to Sears to use it up since no one was touching the card.  I tried on about eight outfits and most of them looked alright and felt pretty comfortable.  However, I wanted something versatile, something that I’ve been wanting for a long time, and something that I knew I would wear this coming Fall.

The skirt, shoes, and shirt are all mine.  The red blazer is not.  As soon as I walked in the store I noticed it from afar and realized that it’s exactly what I was hoping to get someday.  Due to a great sale event it only cost me $13.99.  Such a steal, don’t you think so?!

I also really liked this tank top with lacey roses embroidered down the middle.  It is versatile, refreshing, and somewhat neutral in color.  I didn’t end up purchasing this one because I initially thought that the card contained $50.  Hah!  I was at the register and when I was informed that the card was worth $25, I immediately asked the kind lady to take it out.  It must have been wishful thinking and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who makes that mistake.

Then there was this cute top.  It has pastel colored block patterns and a slightly frilly sleeve on the shoulder area.  This one was a win in my eyes, so I got it for a mere $11.89.  In the end I only had to cough up $3.88, and I’m squealing over here from the rush I feel after getting a good bargain.  Open-mouthed smile  To be brutally honest, I didn’t know that Sears had such great and versatile clothes since my past experience tells me otherwise.  I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend anyone looking for a good sale to hit up Sears NOW.  It’s a command strong suggestion.

I’ve been meaning to purchase some outfits lately because I’m one of those people who wear the same thing over and over, especially if I like the outfit.  However, with the job application process going on and interviews that keep being on hold, I’m doing my best to be wise with our finances.  I have to admit that it’s not always easy to be on a tight budget, but I know that God has blessed me so much already and that we can always trust Him no matter what the future may look like.

Faith is seriously a beautifully mysterious thing because it really isn’t defined by what we see, but what is unseen.

This is the awesome view that God greeted me with today.  It is just mind boggling that He lets His love become evident to us through nature—it’s almost as if He leaves His fingerprints all around for us to see and enjoy.  The older I get the more I am convinced that it’s the small things that make me smile because they are gifts from a great God!

And I just devoured this super moist protein carob cake.  I mixed some tofu, millet flour, brown sugar, Stevia, carob powder, and milk.  I baked it for about 13 minutes and it was the perfect healthy decadence after dinner.  Mmmm.

Do you tend to wear the same outfits a lot?

-I rotate them and if no one saw me in a particular outfit, then I’ll wear it the next day.  And the next, and the next…just kidding, not that bad. Smile with tongue out

In your opinion, which stores have really good bargains?

Which photography theme is your favorite?

-I love scenic photos and food photography the best.  I guess people are good too, but I don’t have as much experience in photographing people.

Love,

Ellie <33

Hi Jun! Hmmm it’s really tricky to describe it! Because I don’t know if there’s anything else that tastes like it. It’s not exactly chocolatey even though it looks like it. It’s kinda smokey, fragrant with a fruity tone to it, and slightly sweet. But it’s really really good in my opinion and although I don’t see it as choc. substitute, I like both the same way :) there’s also carob chips and I love those as well.

I am loving that sunrise, Ellie. Absolutely beautiful.

Also love your carob cake (doesn’t look like it is healthy at all!!)

Super cute clothes! I can appreciate a good bargain :)

I definitely tend to wear the same clothes a lot. I’m very picky about how my clothes fit and it can be hard for me to find ones that I like.

I’m picky with clothes too and I think I get that from my momma. She’s impossible to shop for! :P

Sears? No kidding. It’s been a while since I bothered going in there, because like you, I didn’t have great past experiences in there, but it looks like they may be improving because your outfits are looking super cute :) I’m definitely one of those people that finds something they like and sticks to it… and that applies to things like food as well. I’ve been trying to expand my horizons a bit though, because even though you shouldn’t necessarily mess with a good thing, a little variety makes life more exciting :)

Yes, SEARS. Such a trip, huh? I think they’re finally catching up in the fashion industry~a bit. And I agree that we need variety in life! It’s what makes it fun, and that’s why I love change although it can be hard sometimes.

I am in love with that bright blazer! And I wear the same outfits to work all the time–partly because I just don’t have the brain power in the mornings to come up with anything new, but mostly because I just don’t own that much clothing ;D

Allie, you can totally find it at Sears! only $13-ish…:P oh and I don’t blame you for having no brain power since you wake up like, before the birds do! haha.

I don’t think I’ve been to Sears in ages, clearly a mistake. Well, I went to their outlet store, but that was to buy my crush n’ dent washer and dryer (a few dings and you get perfectly working NEW appliances for a couple hundred dollars cheaper! Ohhh yeah) and not to shop for clothes. Now I just have to talk myself into actually setting foot in a mall ;D

I love that blazer! So cute! I also just recently got a chambray button down from Sears; they have some super-cute and versatile stuff this days. Not your mama’s Sears! haha!
And I love that reminder–I had a tough day at work today, it’s so easy to lose perspective on what’s really important.

ahhaa totally not our mamas’ sears! Although I might add, my mom is VERY fashionable…so I can’t say it’s MY mama’s sears. :P I hope you’re having a better day today Kate! Remember that keeping our eyes on the Lord is everything that keeps us grounded.

Ellie, that first picture of you is so cute! Where did you get your cute shoes? I really want to know! Every time I see your picture, I’m amazed at how pretty you are! :-) I wear the same clothes all the time! I just told my husband that I need to go shopping, especially for workout clothes. I like to hit up places like Marshall’s and TJMaxx because they usually have really cute stuff for a lot less than the mall! Write back and let me know about your shoes! Ok, bye!

Awww thank you so much Lauren, you’re to sweet! Okay so….whatda ya want? ;) jk.

And it’s kinda cool that I’m not the only one wearing things over and over because I thought I was a minority. oh Marshalls and TJ does have great deals. And mannn I’m so sorry about the shoes because they’re from a Korean store in L.A.! A lot of those stores sell everything for a reasonable price, and these were about $36? That ain’t too bad right? I’m sure American stores might sell something similar, but if you browse around for Korean stores in your area, you might find some good ones :) And maybe some english speaking fashion sites that sell Asian clothing/shoes? Have a blessed day girl~

That black top looks beautiful on you : ) I haven’t been to Sears in a long time but they have pretty great sales. Macy’s was another department store I used to frequent because of that but there isn’t one near me since I moved :( Glad you got a great deal!!!

Yeah, I don’t think people know about their clothing area much and that’s why they have lots of sales? :) But soon enough they’ll become known.

I’m guilty of wearing the same outfits a lot… i just have certain favorites that i can’t get enough of. That and my closet is way too small so things get piled up easily… so usually at 6 in the morning when i’m getting ready for work, i just grab whatever is at the top of the pile. Haha!

You look so cute in those outfits Ellie! Such a great deal. =)
I used to shop at Sear’s for my clothes when I was younger. They do have some nice clothing. I still shop there once in a while though.
As for outfits, I’m guilty of that too! If I like an outfit, I just have to wear it more. It makes me feel more confident about myself (since I usually never have confidence).
Btw..that cake looks delicious. I have to make it..ASAP.
