Oh my, how I’ve missed you all during my trip to Kansas!
Thank you so much for the sweet and kind words that you left me on the last post. I have to say that although I haven’t been to many funerals in my short 24 years of life, this one was extremely peaceful and filled with hope and comfort. It is so rare to witness that, and we owe it all to God!
Quite truthfully, we were all relieved to know that she’s not in pain and instead, she’s dancing and rejoicing up in heaven.
Our layover happened in the Denver airport, which is pretty much akin to Disneyland.
The whole trip was filled with tears and much laughter as my mother in law allowed herself to creating fun memories with “sisters” as well as with me. But more on that later.
They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Well, I decided that the way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach, as I took it upon myself to cook for the family a few meals, as time allowed.
I had oatmeal mostly for breakfast, but for my mother in law, it was a completely different story. I took the liberty to make her french toast and pancakes! Very fortunately, she loved them and felt “blessed”. I’m telling you, cooking and giving food gifts is the way to go for those who are going through a rough time!
This was the amazing view that greeted me every morning. Cloudy weather is my favorite!
And then I played with this pinchable, cuddly little beauty! Oh my goodness. Molly is one of the sweetest and most sensitive dogs I’ve ever known because she senses the emotions that people go through, and then acts accordingly. By the way, doesn’t she look like the face of the doggie treats packaging? Random, I know.
Despite the bittersweet emotions in the air, my “mother”, her best friend who drove from Colorado, and I got an appointment at the nail salon. We had such a great time laughing and taking pictures of each other as we were getting our pedicures done. I used to hate having people touch my feet! But coincidentally, mother was the one who got me into it and I don’t mind it so much anymore.
We attended her church’s “Girl’s Night: Black and White” event where plenty of music, food, and fellowship happened. Sometimes, a good time with fellow women (or men, if you’re male) is what we need to heal our soul.
I can’t seem to get over how cute they look! Ummm I would really like a polka dotted dress like that one, thank you very much. ![]()
Hello derriere. Mother got a kick at the expense of my own embarrassment. We got to play a game that was kind of like musical chairs, except that we had to go around a piece of newspaper and step on it without our feet going outside of it when the music stopped. Then, to make things harder, we had to fold it in half and repeat that same process until our newspaper became about 6×6 inches in size. And that’s why you’re witnessing my derriere. But it was all worth it because we won prizes for our whole table! Hey, I told you I’m competitive when it comes to sports and games…
I think this would be a really fun ice breaker and game for special events, so I’m excited to implement it in the future.
On one of the nights, the family and I went to Applebee’s for dinner and I ordered their Sizzling N’Awlins Skillet, which was a mixture of cajun spiced veggies, rice, and chicken. Delicious and highly recommended!
Sometimes traveling doesn’t make it very easy to make economical and healthy food choices, so flexibility and a carefree attitude is my motto. At the airport we had some breakfast at the La Brea Bakery and I got the yogurt parfait with granola, which was a bit too sweet for me, along with some coffee.
During our layover in the Denver airport we had the freedom to choose from dozens of restaurants! Naturally, since I’m a salad lover (especially if it has olives), I went with the Provencale salad at a place called Pour La France!
We’re so thankful that although we had to meet each other under those conditions, we had good quality time by being there for the family.
Oh yeah, before I forget….
I made this for Greg this morning! It’s pumpkin french toast encrusted in crushed Panda Puffs. Eeeee.
Have a great day and talk to you soon!
In what ways do you like to comfort people?
-I like to listen and talk to them+ cook/bake for them. Basically, I love to serve them.
How do you manage your eating when you travel? Does it remain the same or are you more flexible?
Love,
Ellie <33

I’m glad to hear that your travels were safe and smooth. I’m also glad you got to spend time with loved ones.
I’m the same way – I try to anticipate needs of people who need comforting, bringing things to them before they realized they wanted it.
Have a wonderful week, Ellie!
That’s exactly right! my mother in law never realized that she was hungry at certain times until she sloooowed down and stopped to smell the food.
Please come and make me some of that French toast
haha I think we have two of the same loves! french toast and panda puffs. Both are highly addictive…
That’s so sweet of you to bake and cook for your loved ones… If I pretend to be sad, will you come cook for me too? Seriously, all of the things you made looks absolutely delicious. It’s funny because I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much emotion is tied to food, and how it can be used as a source of comfort as long as we don’t go overboard on it. I love to bake things for other people too, and it just melts my heart to see someone enjoy what I’ve made. I also think that talking, listening, and offering advice are all a great way to help… especially if it’s done over a plate of warm cookies and hot chocolate
oh how I wish I could do lots of things for ya girlie!
I think since food is something that 99% of people like and then the care and love that goes into it is so heart warming, that one can’t help BUT to enjoy it and be blessed by it.
Im glad you were able to offer your family some comfort. It was really sweet of you to make food for them. I think sometimes thats the best comfort, simply being there and offering your services, in whatever way they need.
And Greg is one lucky man. That sure is a plate full of goodness right there!!
haha he already knows that
Heyyy talk about me! let’s talk about YOUR awesome cooking!
Glad you were able to bless family with your service and cooking! What a blessing you are!
ALL those breakfasts! I definitely come from a “comfort with food” family, and I tend to go with being goofy/trying to get people to laugh in otherwise sad situations. I’m not the best at sadness/loss, so I do what I cant to help the mood–but make sure I’m there and serious when someone needs that instead!
ahhhh how interesting Allie! Grandma who passed away was exactly the same way! She was a CRAZY JOKESTER AND MADE EVVVERYONE LAUGH!
That’s one of the traits that best described her. I’m sure people are uplifted by your humor <3
Molly looks like such a cutie and the way you describe her makes her even more special. Isn’t it fascinating how animals can be more sensitive towards other’s feelings than some humans?
The way I like to comfort people depends on which kind of a rough time they’re going through. Like, if they have doubts in themselves, I listen to them and try to show them how special they are and where their talents lie. In some other cases I, like you, bake or cook for them. Many problems have been solved by cookies and a cup of tea so far.
Hi, Ellie! I missed you!! I’m glad to hear that the funeral went well and that you got to spend some quality time with the family. I’m with you. I show my love by cooking/baking for others. Food is the universal language right? I also like to just be there for the person experiencing trials and to lend them a ear..and my shoulder while I’m at it
. PUmpkin french toast sounds heavenly! And Molly is soo adorable! Seriously, are we twins? I HATE getting my pedicures done. I just don’t want anyone to suffer through touching my dirty feet. I don’t even let Tim touch them haha. It’s good to be home, eh?
I’ve missed you too! Hope your schooling is going well~And I think you and i are freakishly alike~but it’s a good thing! Why would I not want to have some of your qualities?
Yay!
I just caught up on your bloggie
<3
haha good to see you Floey!
How sweet that you were able to bring joy to your mother in law by such a simple gesture of love. It’s crazy how the tiniest actions are so underestimated by us, but when we really take the time to put someone else’s needs in our hearts instead of our own it can mean the world to them!
Anyway, glad to hear you had a peaceful trip! You can fly over here and cook me breakfast any day
True that, Brittany! This world is so full of darkness sometimes that the smallest light we can bring to it makes a world of a difference.
I am glad to read your travels were safe and that you got to spend time with family during this tough time. I also tend to offer to cook and clean when I know people are going through a tough time. Help serve them the little things to make everything a little easier. A beautiful post. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Alaine! That is very sweet of you~you’re so mature! Especially for your age. I don’t know if you like to hear that, but it’s true!
